Celebrating the People Behind the Whistle

Central Coast Football is proud to announce Referee Appreciation Week, running from Monday 30 June to Sunday 6 July. It’s a week dedicated to recognising and celebrating the vital role referees play in our sport.

Why It Matters

Referees are the heartbeat of football. Week in, week out, they uphold the laws of the game, ensure player safety, and maintain fair play across every level of competition. Without them, there’s no game.

This week is about making sure they know just how valued they are—both on and off the pitch.

Record-Breaking Numbers

This year, Central Coast Football has 355 registered referees—the highest in our history. Thanks to their commitment, we’ve achieved 100% referee coverage for all competition games across the last two seasons. It’s a milestone that reflects the strength and dedication of our refereeing community.

How We’re Celebrating

Referee Profiles

Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing stories from local referees—from experienced veterans to enthusiastic first years. These are the people behind the whistle, and their journeys deserve the spotlight.

Tuggerah Comes Alive

Central Coast Regional Sports Centre at Tuggerah will host 98 catchup games across the week. We’re turning the venue into a hub of appreciation, with on-site signage and sideline hospitality to make our referees feel respected and right at home.

Matchday Gratitude

We’re asking clubs, coaches, players, and spectators to take a moment before or after every game to thank the referee. Whether it’s a handshake, a round of applause, or a simple word of thanks—it makes a difference.

A Word from Our CEO

“Referees don’t ask for thanks, but they deserve it,” said Alex Burgin, CEO of Central Coast Football. “This week is about showing them the respect they’ve earned—across 13,000 games this season, tens of thousands of decisions, and countless moments that make our competitions possible.”

Thanks to Our Community Partner

We extend our sincere thanks to our major community partner, Wyong Leagues Group, for their outstanding support in 2025. From kitting out all referees in new gear for the season, to supporting our elite development panel, and hosting our season launch event—they’ve played a huge role in making this year a standout for our referee community.

Referee Appreciation Week is a chance for everyone in the football community to step up and show support. Rain, hail, or shine—these are the people who keep the game going.
