Wyoming v Woy Woy

Round 15 marks a crucial week for both of these clubs who find themselves in the relegation zone on the club championship ladder as Woy Woy and Wyoming will fight for their season this weekend at Alan Davidson Oval.

Wyoming, who sit just 16 club championship points above Woy Woy and 15 below the Entrance who currently remain safe from relegation, will be adamant in picking up all 21 points on offer.

Last round the Tigers were extremely unlucky not to walk away with all three points in first grade after a nil-all draw with Avoca saw Wyoming claim their third draw of the season.

Despite facing relegation for the second straight year, that has not deterred coach Ian McAndrew from playing a positive brand of football at the club which was commended by Avoca’s coach post game last Sunday.

Now looking onto this weekend, Ian spoke on what this weekend means as his squad will bolster with the return of veteran Matt Hall. “This weekend is like any other weekend. We are going out there to try and win three games of football. What will be will be with relegation, we have been very unlucky the last two weeks.”

“I think we have shaded the games but couldn’t find the net and if you want to win football matches you need to score. We are boosted by the return of Matt Hall this weekend which will help for the remainder of the season.”

‘The King of the Ming’ Matt Hall will play a very important part of Wyoming’s success for the remainder of the season as he looks to make an instant impact this weekend.

“The boys are very upbeat at the moment because I said the last two games we come off playing good football just not finding the net. We have five games left this year and we are out to prove we can compete. We have a tough run home playing three of the top five teams, but this club loves tough games and backs against wall, come and get us mentality, this club has been built on it,” added McAndrew.

With their attentions firmly set on Woy Woy, Wyoming only managed to win one out of three grades when these two sides met earlier in the year but with their recent run of good performances, the Tigers will step onto Alan Davidson Oval with plenty of confidence come Sunday.

“Woy Woy we’re brilliant against us last round and really stuck it to us. We expect a fast past game with them looking to release their two striker weapons who play up top for them, who made my south select team and were both outstanding.”

If my team can keep improving on performances over the last two weeks and play with some resilience, we will be hard to beat and hopefully we can find the net.”

As for the opposition, Woy Woy are coming off a 7-goal thriller with Kanwal as the Roosters fell 4-3 last Sunday in front of a home crowd.

Scoring goals has not been a problem for this Woy Woy outfit in 2023 who have managed to score at least one goal in all but two fixtures this year. However, conceding goals have been a massive problem for this side who record the joint worst defence in the league as the promoted side currently sits bottom of the ladder.

Neal Morris confirmed this weekend ahead basically make or break for this squad after their inconsistent year. “Definitely this week is do or die, after not being consistent enough in what we needed to do to win games it comes down to Sunday to have any chance of being in MPL next year.”

Despite fighting for their season, Neal also mentioned that team morale is still high within the club. “Team morale across the squad is still positive, cause when you can still mathematically make something, they still believe there is something to play for, even when we haven’t been at our best in recent weeks.”

Woy Woy will enter this weekend looking to repeat their only win of 2023 as they defeated Wyoming 3-1 when these sides met back in round 6.

Knowing they have what it takes to beat the opposition, Neal voiced that this weekend will be treated like a final, adding his team must want it more than Wyoming. “This Sundays match has to be treated like a grand final, Wyoming in the same boat as us will come out firing from the opening whistle to try and take control of the game early, but it all comes down to who wants it more.”

“We have had several good starts to many games but haven’t gone on with the job. On Sunday it’s up to us to really stand up and take it to them and plug away till the end no matter the situation.”
