Kanwal v Killarney

WPL returns after a week off for the North vs South exhibition match that featured Kanwal and Killarney players on the same team who will now face off in the round 12 match of the round.

Despite these two clubs teaming up to face the South representative side, North fell short on the day going down 4-1 to the outfit in red.

However, those who didn’t participate in the game got a week off to rest and injuries as the Bulls squad looks to get back to winning ways this weekend.

Ben Raychaudhuri of Kanwal stated the break has had both positive and negative outcomes on his squad. “The weekend off has had both positive and negative effects. It’s been good to rest some of the girls who have little niggles however we have the bye next round so we will have played one match in a month heading into East Gosford which isn’t ideal.”

Kanwal’s last game was against the current league leaders Terrigal, but a subpar performance from Ben’s side that day saw them leave Duffys Oval with a 2-0 defeat.

That marked just Kanwal’s third loss of their 2023 campaign as the Bulls currently sit in third on the ladder with six wins and 18 points to their name.

The challenge for Kanwal this week is to show up focused and defeat this Killarney side that they have already beaten earlier in the season.

“We need to bounce back after a disappointing performance against Terrigal last game,” voiced Ben.

“We didn’t do ourselves justice or give ourselves the best chance to get a result so getting back to what has worked for us this weekend is extremely important. If we keep faith with the system and structure, our performance will improve enough to give us a chance to get the points.”

When asked about the fixture against Killarney, Ben stated he expects the opposition to come out fast and determined, “As for this weekend’s game, I’d be very surprised if Killarney didn’t come out and have a red-hot crack. They have had a couple of good performances over the last few weeks so they will be full of confidence and hopeful of getting a result from the game.“

“As I’ve stated before, if we stick to our structures and system, allowing everyone to do their job then our performance should give us every chance to gain maximum points, but we know we will need to be at our best because we aren’t in a position to be complacent, regardless of the ladder.”

As for this weekend’s visitors, Killarney enters round 12 at the bottom of the ladder with just one point to their name. It took the Terries all the way until round 8 to get their first point of the season which came against last year’s grand finalist Southern & Ettalong.

The last time these two sides faced it would not be Killarney’s day as the Bulls ran over the top of them to win 8-0.

Despite only recording the one point to their name, in recent weeks the Terriers have been playing their season-best football and this showed in round 7 when Killarney travelled to Hylton Moore Oval and almost got a result against the undefeated East Gosford side.

On that day Killarney took a 1-0 lead against the Rams and were on track to handing East Gosford their first loss of the year but two late goals saw the Terriers fall 2-1.

Despite the loss, Adam Tait and his squad would have taken plenty away from that fixture, knowing that when they play their best football they can challenge the best this competition has to offer which they will be adamant to repeat again this weekend.

Adam Tait also spoke on having the week off which allowed his squad to rest while also commenting on the opposition and what his squad need to do to be successful come Sunday.

“Happy to get a week off. Last time we played Kanwal they dominated us. We are expecting much of the same from them. Our players are hoping to improve from the last time we played them.”
