Kincumber v Killarney

An eager Kincumber will host their first home game at Frost Reserve since re-joining the WPL competition as they welcome Killarney for the round 3 match of the round.

There has been a lot of hard work and effort gone in behind the scenes at this club to ensure that their women’s and WPL program will be a success. “The Kincumber Roos FC are excited about re-entry into the CCF Women’s Premier League. The Kincumber Roos FC last played in the WPL in 2019. Since exiting the WPL, the club has been undefeated in the Women’s All Age 1s competition.”

“Over the previous two years, the club has worked hard on a WPL pathway program for its junior girl’s teams. This focus has enabled the club to have a host of quality U/16 and U/18 players to draw upon to complement a quality WPL squad. Coaches Ian George (First Grade) and John Chilvers (Reserves) believe the club’s focus on a quality junior girl’s program will ensure WPL success,” voiced squad manager David Cullen.

The Roos got their season underway last weekend when they travelled to Wadalba to face Kanwal. Kincumber started hot and executed their gameplan to perfection in the opening 45 minutes as they held a 1-0 lead over the Bulls at the break.

However, Kincumber could not hold onto their first-half lead as they fell two goals to one and were unable to get their return to WPL off to a dream start. However, the Kincumber coaching staff know that a new competition means a new standard which does not always occur overnight, especially with a bigger squad.

“Ian George indicated there is great camaraderie across the WPL squad, and the more experienced players warmly welcomed their younger teammates. He also noted the importance of the WPL Pre-Season Cup, which enabled him and John Chilvers to experiment with the roster, build new combinations, and have all girls experience the rigour of WPL football.”

Unlucky not to walk away with any points, Kincumber will be forced to move on and focus on their next challenge ahead as they look to get their first win, in front of a home crowd.

“Ian’s immediate goal with the Firsts team is for them to grow as a unit and learn from every game. He and reserves coach John Chilvers are determined to build a competitive and successful squad in WPL football. The whole squad and their supporters know every game in the WPL will be tough, but they are looking forward to every challenge.”

Kincumber will be welcoming a desperate Killarney side who also will be determined to get their season underway and pick up their first result of the year.

“Concerning their match this weekend against KDS, Ian is looking to his team to capitalise on the pluses from their narrow defeat to Kanwal. He knows KDS will have a strong team but is confident his team will rise to the challenge and equip themselves well.”

As for the visitors, Killarney is the only team who have played both games so far this season after the wet weather put a halt to the majority of our round 1 fixtures.

The opening round saw the Terriers face East Gosford who were too good for Adam Tait’s side on the day, going down 5-0 to the Rams.

In their second fixture of the year, the Terriers travelled to the peninsular to face Southern & Ettalong. The Terriers failed to capitalise on multiple chances as they saw defeat for the second time this season, losing 2-1 to the Lionesses.

With an influx of new players to their squad, it always takes time for these new players to gel, especially when they are youthful like Adam Tait’s recruits. “Our team this season has a lot of new faces compared to last season.”

Tait also stated that preseason was far from ideal as they were uncertainty within the squad. “Our preseason was not the best due to the fact of uncertainty over player numbers.”

Killarney remains on the road once again this weekend as they look to pick up their first victory of the season.

“Our expectations are to rebuild this season as we have a lot of new players.”

Facing the competition newcomers, it will be hard to gauge what to expect from the opposition, but Adam will be focused on making sure his team play up to their standard and if so the three points should be heading back to Killarney with his team.

“All teams in the competition are competitive and Kincumber I’m certain will give us a hard game.”
