Sunday 7/7: U/21’s 10:45am, RES 12:45pm, Firsts 2:45pm:

Woongarrah FC vs Terrigal United FC – Hamlyn Terrace

After last weekend’s gruelling clash with Berkeley Vale, Woongarrah return to Hamlyn Terrace for another massive clash, this time hosting Terrigal United. After an even first 45, the ‘Cats certainly stamped their authority on the second half, with the side spurning a number of chances to wrap up the match. Ultimately, a goal to Alex Govorcin in the 83rd minute proved the difference, with the three points enough to see the newly promoted side back into the top five. All signs seem to suggest this match will be a great watch for the neutral with both sides involved in their fair share of high scoring encounters so far this season (most notably Woongarrah’s two 4-3 wins and Terrigals recent 6-2 result). Separated by just three points on the competition table, a win for either side would go a long way to securing their finals position.

Terrigal United extended their unbeaten run to 8 matches after a routine 5-1 victory over The Entrance last weekend saw them climb back into third position on the Battlewin Premier League table. Wins over Killarney and Southern and Ettalong United throughout this unbeaten run have shown the capability of Martyn Griffiths side, with the only disappointing result being the 2-2 draw with struggling Kanwal. Sunday’s clash with Woongarrah is followed by a round 17 clash with East Gosford, two crucial matches before Terrigal face consecutive games against Killarney, Wyoming, and Berkeley Vale throughout the run into the finals.

Avoca FC vs Toukley FC – Pluim Park

On the back of last weekends incredible 7-5 victory over Wyoming, Avoca return to Pluim Park looking to make more progress towards the Battlewin Premier League’s top five, with the gap currently standing at four points. After falling behind 2-1 half way through the first period, the Sharks turned the match on its head to lead 6-3 halfway through the second before going on to win 7-5. It’s been a good response from Avoca after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Berkeley Vale three weeks ago, a result that looked like it may have put a significant dent in their finals aspirations, but back-to-back wins have seen them claw back the ground. With matches against Toukley, Kanwal, and Gosford City to come over the next month, the Sharks could see themselves break into the final’s positions come the final few weeks of the season.

Last weekend’s disappointing 3-0 loss to East Gosford represented a significant missed opportunity for the Gunners to move out of the Club Championship relegation places. Currently just four points from safety, the match with the Rams posed one of the better opportunities the clubs first grade side would get to accumulate some points ahead of arguably the toughest end of season fixture list in the league. With eight matches to play including their deferred match with leaders Killarney, the Gunners face each of the top seven sides in the competition, with the only exception being their round 18 clash with relegation rivals Kanwal. They’ll be looking to pick up points over the coming weeks when they face 7th placed Avoca, 6th placed Berkeley Vale, and 11th placed Kanwal before an extremely tough last few weeks of the campaign.

The Entrance FC vs Gosford City FC – Pat Morley Oval

In another huge round 16 clash, relegation rivals The Entrance and Gosford City face off at Pat Morley Oval. The Entrance have only picked up two points since the last meeting between the sides back in round five, a match that saw them run out 5-1 winners. Currently sitting above the Dragons in all three grades, this weekend’s clash in front of their own crowd could be just the tonic the side needs to take all 18 available Club Championship points, a tally that would see them take a huge leap towards a place in next seasons Premier League.

Whilst the scoreline from last weekend’s 4-0 loss to Southern and Ettalong United probably didn’t reflect the balance of play, the loss ensured that Gosford still remain rooted to the bottom of the Battlewin Premier League table. Similarly to their opponents, Gosford have also struggled for points since the last time the sides met, with a solitary win over Kanwal providing the only boost to their first grade points tally. Currently 52 CC points shy of safety, this weekend’s fixtures with The Entrance essentially loom as must-win across all three grades for the Dragons, as time runs out to save their season. Expect this weekend’s clash to be a closer affair than the 5-1 result the last time these sides met, especially given the improved performances the Dragons have put in over the previous two weeks against finals contenders Wyoming and Southern and Ettalong United.

Kanwal FC vs East Gosford FC – Wadalba Sports Complex

Kanwal’s clash with East Gosford this weekend presents them with another chance to move further from the relegation places after opening up a 15-point gap over the previous few weeks. This weekend signals the end of what has been an incredibly tough run of fixtures for the Bulls, facing each of the top six in the previous six rounds. The fact that they’ve managed to collect points from three of those six matches must be deemed a success, and it sets them up for a potentially strong end to the campaign. Kanwal don’t face another top six side until the final two rounds of the campaign, a period that could see them well and truly establish themselves as a Premier League club next season.

The Rams will be looking to build on last weekend’s massive 3-0 win over Toukley with a good performance against Kanwal on Sunday afternoon. The win over the Gunners last weekend saw them move within one point of eighth place, as they battle to emerge as the ‘best of the rest’ on the Battlewin Premier League table. Sunday’s victory was a good response after the 4-0 loss to Avoca two weeks ago, with this weekend’s clash shaping as an opportunity to pick up valuable points before an unforgiving run of fixtures that sees them face Terrigal, Berkeley Vale, Killarney, and Southern towards the back end of the season.

Killarney District SC vs Berkeley Vale SC – EDSAAC North

The second edition of last season’s grand-final will take place at EDSAAC North on Sunday afternoon with Killarney District and Berkeley Vale going head-to-head. The Terriers come into the weekends match on the back of a taxing 2-1 win over Kanwal, the second tough match that they’ve played involving the Bulls this season. The win saw the side extend their unbeaten run to 6 matches ahead of Sundays clash with the Wombats, whilst also maintaining their three-point buffer atop of the BPL table, with one match in hand. The last time the sides met saw the Terriers register a 2-0 victory in a match that they controlled from the outset, a result and performance they’ll be looking to repeat.

The Wombats will be looking to bounce back following last weekend’s loss to Woongarrah, going down 2-1 at Hamlyn Terrace. The result saw them slip back outside the Battlewin Premier Leagues top five, two points behind the Wildcats in fifth. After what was an extremely even first half, the ‘Bats slowly began to be overrun in the second period before a late goal saw them fall to their fifth loss of the season. They’ll be looking to turn around the 2-0 loss they suffered in the last fixture but will have to do so without midfielder Reece Caira who serves a suspension after accumulating his fifth yellow card last weekend.

Wyoming FC vs Southern and Ettalong United FC – Alan Davidson Oval

The big games keep coming in round 16 of the Battlewin Premier League as finals competitors Wyoming and Southern and Ettalong United clash at Alan Davidson Oval. Wyoming played their part in what was arguably the game of the year last Saturday night, a match in which they scored five goals but still managed to come away empty handed. The loss was just the Tigers first in their last five matches with the side currently siting fourth on the premier league table, just five points shy of leaders Killarney, and two shy of their weekend opponents Southern in 2nd place. The last time the sides met Wyoming suffered a 4-2 defeat, a result they’ll be confident of overturning this time around.

Southern responded well after they were hammered 6-2 by Terrigal two weeks ago, recording a 4-0 win over Gosford City to regain second spot on the BPL table from their weekend’s opponents. Whilst not the most convincing performance, the most important aspect of last weekend’s match was that they emerged with the three points given how competitive the top 7 sides are this season. They’ll be out to try and shore up second position on the ladder with a win, whilst also continuing to keep pressure on competition leaders Killarney.
