This weekend sees the Battlewin Premier League enter its final three weeks of the 2019 season, with a number of finals contenders set to go head to head across the Central Coast this weekend! The round twenty fixture list is as follows:

Sunday 11/8: U/21’s 10:45am, Reserve Grade 12:45pm, First Grade 2:45pm:

Toukley FC vs Wyoming FC – Harry Moore Oval
Killarney District SC vs The Entrance FC – EDSAAC North
Woongarrah FC vs Avoca FC – Hamlyn Terrace
Terrigal United FC vs Berkeley Vale SC – Duffy’s Oval
Southern and Ettalong United FC vs East Gosford FC – James Browne Oval
Kanwal FC vs Gosford City FC – Wadalba Sports Complex

Toukley FC vs Wyoming FC – Harry Moore Oval

Toukley face another big match in their bid to avoid relegation to Division One when they take on Wyoming at Harry Moore Oval on Sunday afternoon. The Gunners are currently 12 club championship points behind The Entrance in the all-important tenth position with three rounds remaining. When you factor in all three grades, the Gunners still have a maximum of 54 points to play for over the remaining three weeks, however their remaining three matchdays see them face tough opponents in Wyoming, Terrigal, and Southern and Ettalong United.

A narrow 2-1 victory over Terrigal United last weekend saw Wyoming re-enter the Battlewin Premier League’s top five, holding a far superior goal-difference over sixth placed Avoca who they find themselves locked on 36 competition points with. With just four points separating sides four to seven, the race for a finals position looks as if it is going to go down to the wire. The Tigers recorded a comprehensive 6-0 victory when they faced the Gunners earlier in the season, with a repeat result sure to see them well placed to record a finals berth in three weeks’ time.

Killarney District SC vs The Entrance FC – EDSAAC North

Fresh off a convincing 4-1 victory over the East Gosford Rams, Killarney return to EDSAAC looking to maintain the three point lead they currently hold over Southern and Ettalong United at the top of the Battlewin Premier League table as they host The Entrance. Sitting first on 44 competition points, realistically the Terriers only need to win two of their remaining three matches to secure the first-grade league championship given they hold a far superior goal difference over the Lions in second position (20 goals). The Terriers managed a resounding 5-0 win when the sides met back in May, however a depleted squad plus an opponent fighting to remain in the competition next season tends to suggest Sunday’s clash will be a closer affair.

The Entrance took a huge leap towards avoiding the drop last weekend, widening the gap between themselves and Toukley in the 2nd relegation place to 12 points. Crucial victories in first grade and under 21’s ensured the Sea Eagles extended their safety buffer ahead of two tough fixtures over the coming fortnight. This weekend’s fixtures with Killarney will likely see points tough to come by for The Entrance, with the Terriers leading all three grades in the premier league competition. Following this weekend, the Sea Eagles close out the season with matches against Avoca and East Gosford, with the latter shaping as a potentially huge clash on the last day of the season.

Woongarrah FC vs Avoca FC – Hamlyn Terrace

After moving into third position following their narrow win over Toukley last weekend, Woongarrah return to Hamlyn Terrace for back-to-back home matches as they begin what is, on paper, a tough final three premier league fixtures. The ‘Cats currently hold a four-point buffer over the Sharks in sixth as they look to secure a finals berth in their first season in the top flight. Following this weekend’s match, Woongarrah face the top two sides in the competition, Southern at home and Killarney at EDSAAC, a run of fixtures that made last weekend’s victory over Toukley all the more important.

Six victories on the bounce have seen Avoca continue to chip away at what was a five-point gap between themselves and a finals position, now only deprived of a position in the Battlewin Premier Leagues top five on goal difference as the competition enters its final three weeks. This six-week stretch has included big wins over Wyoming and Southern and Ettalong United as the Sharks continue to prove that they are capable of doing some damage in the final’s series. Both Avoca and Woongarrah have experienced little issue in finding the net on a regular basis so far this season, so here’s hoping we’re not dished up another 0-0 draw as was the case earlier in the season at Pluim Park.

Terrigal United FC vs Berkeley Vale SC – Duffy’s Oval

In what has been an incredibly unpredictable premier league season to date, Terrigal United find themselves within a point of falling out of the competitions top five after their narrow loss to Wyoming last weekend. Despite big wins over the competitions top two in recent weeks, losses to both Woongarrah and Wyoming have seen them drop to fourth position, with a challenging three weeks of fixtures to navigate to finish the regular season. The first of those fixtures sees them tackle Berkeley Vale this weekend, of whom are still in the hunt for a finals position, before facing a Toukley side fighting to avoid relegation and an Avoca side who currently trail them by a solitary point. In the previous meeting at Mingara earlier in the year both sides shared the points despite Terrigal finding themselves 2-0 up in the early stages of the second half.

Berkeley Vale head into this weekend’s match with Terrigal on the back of a heavy 4-0 defeat to Southern and Ettalong United last weekend. The loss, their second to the Lions this season saw them fall back into seventh, three points outside a finals position after both Wyoming and Avoca picked up victories in their respective matches. Similarly to Terrigal, this weekend’s clash shapes as a critically important one in reference to their hopes of a finals berth in 2019. If the ‘Bats are unable to pick up three points and both Avoca and Wyoming secure victories they’ll find themselves at best four points outside a top-five position with just two matches to play.

Southern and Ettalong United FC vs East Gosford FC – James Browne Oval

After missing a golden opportunity to draw level with Killarney at the top of the Battlewin Premier League table two weeks ago, Southern and Ettalong United responded in emphatic fashion, dispatching Berkeley Vale 4-0 at Mingara last weekend. Three points against East Gosford this weekend will guarantee the Lions side a place in the 2019 finals series, although you’d bet they’ve got their sights set on finishing the first grade season in first place.

The East Gosford Rams head into Sunday afternoons match on a poor run of form, without a win in their previous four matches. Although winless in four, the Rams continue to hold onto eighth position, the best of the five sides eliminated from finals contention. If the side can get a result of some sort out of Sunday’s match they’ll be well placed to finish the season strongly as they look ahead to matches with Gosford City and The Entrance to close out their 2019 campaign.

Kanwal FC vs Gosford City FC – Wadalba Sports Complex

The Battlewin Premier Leagues two bottom sides face off in the final match of the round twenty fixture list with Kanwal hosting Gosford City at Wadalba Sports Complex on Sunday afternoon. After appearing to take a step forward following their hard-fought 3-1 victory over Toukley two weeks ago, the Bulls had all that good work undone, slumping to a 3-0 defeat to The Entrance last weekend.  Despite last weekend’s loss, a win over Gosford on Sunday afternoon would almost certainly see the Bulls jump from eleventh position up to eighth on the competition table. They’ll be looking to avoid another loss to the Dragons, with the last meeting between the sides remaining Gosford’s only victory so far this season.

Gosford City have bounced back positively from their big loss to Killarney three weeks ago, recording narrow defeats to Woongarrah and Avoca in recent weeks. The Dragons will be looking to end what has been a largely disappointing season on a positive note with a second victory over Kanwal this weekend. Looking ahead, the Dragons final two Premier League games will see them pitted against city rivals the East Gosford Rams before finishing the season with a home fixture against Berkeley Vale, a match that could potentially see them have a say in the final makeup of the BPL’s top five.
